Washington Journal of Environmental Law & Policy

The Journal has a reputation for successfully gathering the relevant intellectuals and decision-makers around important environmental concerns facing our world. Each year, WJELP partners with the University of Washington Environmental Law Program to host the University of Washington Environmental Law Symposium.

In 2014, the Journal hosted the Arctic Encounter Symposium. Leaders from across the globe gathered to explore the delicate balance between resource development and conservation in the Arctic and to debate the best paths forward for the United States. The ABA subsequently recognized this event, naming the Arctic Encounter Symposium the 2014–15 Law Student Program of the Year.

This past year, the Journal hosted an Environmental Law Symposium examining the growing need for law and policy addressing earthquake and natural disaster preparedness and response at various scales (local, regional, national, and global). The Symposium featured presentations from policy makers, scientists, scholars, and legal practitioners on a wide range of topics related to earthquake and natural disaster preparedness, and environmental law.

The next Annual Environmental Law Symposium will take place on Friday, November 2, 2018, and will examine how the legal landscape contends with environmental justice issues. Please contact wjelp@uw.edu for more information.
