Law School Commencement 2017

Congratulations to the Class of 2017. Our graduating students in the J.D., M.J., LL.M., and Ph.D. programs, along with their families, are invited to participate in the University of Washington School of Law Dean's Graduation Open-House and the 2017 Commencement Ceremony.

Dean's Graduation Open-House

UW School of Law, William H. Gates Hall

4093 Memorial Way NE, Seattle, Sunday, June 4, 2017, 1–3 p.m.

UW Law will host a casual open-house to celebrate the Class of 2017. All graduates, and their families, are invited to attend. Grads are invited to show their families around Gates Hall to introduce them to their favorite faculty members and take photos on the beautiful terrace. Light refreshments will be available. This is a family-friendly event; however no childcare will be available.

Commencement Ceremony

Benaroya Hall

200 University Street, Seattle, Sunday, June 4, 2017, 7:30–9:30 p.m.

The School of Law Commencement Ceremony will be held in Taper Auditorium at Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle. The ceremony is expected to end before 9:30 p.m.

The 430-car underground garage at Benaroya Hall provides direct access from the enclosed parking area into the Hall via elevators. The event rate is $15. There are many other garages within a one-block radius.

Commencement Ceremony Tickets

Ceremony ticket distribution will begin on May 1, 2017. Tickets will be available for pickup in Student and Career Services (Suite 346) each weekday between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

J.D. CANDIDATE TICKET DISTRIBUTION DETAILS

Each eligible JD candidate will receive up to eight tickets to the graduation ceremony. A ticket is required for each individual seated in the audience (with the exception of infants and small children held on laps). All seating is general admission. Tickets should be kept in a secure place; lost tickets are not replaceable. Candidates do not require a ticket.

Tickets will only be released after the degree candidate has completed their graduation survey. The graduate employment survey for J.D. candidates should be completed through Symplicity under My Account/Employment Survey. Questions about the J.D. survey and tickets can be directed to .

GRADUATE CANDIDTATE TICKET DISTRIBUTION DETAILS

Each eligible M.J., LL.M. or Ph.D. candidate will receive up to four tickets to the graduation ceremony. A ticket is required for each individual seated in the audience (with the exception of infants and small children held on laps). All seating is general admission. Tickets should be kept in a secure place; lost tickets are not replaceable. Candidates do not require a ticket.

Tickets will only be released after the degree candidate has completed their graduation survey. Reminder: Review of the graduate employment surveys can take up to two business days from the day it is submitted. Please wait two business days before picking up your tickets from Student and Career Services (Suite 346).

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL TICKETS

If you do not need the maximum number of tickets you are eligible for, please return them to Student and Career Services (Suite 346) for redistribution. Redistribution of remaining tickets will occur from Thursday, May 11 – Thursday May 25, 2017.

Cap & Gown Orders:

Graduates must order their cap and gown online from Oak Hill through the UW web site. The form is available May 3 – May 21, 2017. See:http://www.washington.edu/graduation/registrationorder-form/

  • J.D. candidates should order the J.D. regalia listed under "Professional Apparel" Traditional black doctoral gown, black tam, degree-colored hood, old gold tassel.
  • LL.M. candidates should order the Black Master gown & mortarboard, black tassel, degree-colored hood.
  • Ph.D. candidates may order the traditional black doctoral gown or the Purple gown and tam, gold tassel, Ph.D. hood.
