Watch the 2018 UW Law Commencement Ceremony

Congratulations to the Class of 2018. Our graduating students in the J.D., M.J., LL.M., and Ph.D. programs, along with their families, are invited to participate in the University of Washington School of Law Dean's Graduation Open-House and the 2018 Commencement Ceremony.

UW Law Open House

Sunday, June 3, 2018, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

William H. Gates Hall, Terrace

UW Law will host a casual open-house to celebrate the Class of 2018. All graduates, and their families, are invited to attend. Grads are invited to show their families around Gates Hall to introduce them to their favorite faculty members and take photos on the beautiful terrace. Light refreshments will be available. This is a family-friendly event; however no childcare will be available. Family photos will be available at the event.

ADA ACCESSIBILITY: Guests who need accommodation parking and seating are advised to arrive at Benaroya no later than 6:30 pm as seating opens for the general public at 6:45pm. Disability/wheelchair parking spaces adjacent to elevators in the Benaroya Hall parking garage are available to placard-holders on a first come/first served basis.


Commencement ceremony ticket distribution will begin on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. There will be multiple controlled releases of tickets. Each eligible JD, MJ, LLM, and PhD candidate will initially receive up to six (6) tickets to the graduation ceremony in the first ticket distribution. Students should take only as many tickets as their confirmed guests require. A ticket is required for each individual seated in the audience (with the exception of infants and small children held on laps). All seating is general admission. Tickets should be kept in a secure place; lost tickets are not replaceable. Candidates do not need a ticket for themselves.

All candidates must complete a Graduate Employment Survey prior to picking up their ceremony tickets. Each survey must be reviewed individually by UW Law staff. The review process will take two business days to complete. Your tickets will be available for pick up two business days after submitting your survey unless you receive an email requesting additional action. Tickets may be picked up in the Student and Career Services (SCS) office in suite 346 Monday – Friday (except on national holidays) between 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

J.D. Graduate Employment Survey Details
Each JD candidate must complete the Graduate Employment survey. This survey collects information that UW Law must submit to the ABA as part of our mandatory reporting for accreditation purposes. Candidates graduating from concurrent LL.M./J.D. programs must fill out both surveys before they may pick up their tickets.

Reminder: Review of your survey will take two business days from the date it is submitted. You must wait at least two business days before picking up your tickets from SCS (Suite 346).


Graduates must order their cap and gown online from Oak Hill through the UW web site. The form is available May 2 – May 20, 2018. See:

  • J.D. candidates should order the J.D. regalia listed under “Professional Apparel” Traditional black doctoral gown, black tam, degree-colored hood, old gold tassel.
  • LL.M. candidates should order the Black Master gown & mortarboard, black tassel, degree-colored hood.
  • Ph.D. candidates may order the traditional black doctoral gown or the Purple gown and tam, gold tassel, Ph.D. hood.
