Professor Mary Hotchkiss is a Senior Lecturer at the UW School of Law where she teaches a variety of upper level electives focused on developing legal research and writing skills. She also holds an adjunct appointment at the UW Information School where she teaches information policy.

Professor Hotchkiss began teaching at UW in 1991 and joined the full-time faculty in 1999. She served as Academic Dean from 2002-05; Director of Academic Advising from 2005-09; and as Associate Dean for Students from 2009-16. She currently serves as a Senior Advisor to the Dean.

She earned a History from Duke University, a M.S. L.S. from The Catholic University of America, and a J.D. and LL.M. from The George Washington University Law School. She is admitted to the Maryland bar. Professor Hotchkiss worked at a Maryland law firm specializing in tax and estate planning. She served as a law librarian at the White House and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. She served as the editor-in-chief of Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing from 2000-12. Originally from the other Washington, she now calls Seattle home.
