This course provides an overview of United States patent law. No technical background is required. The course will analyze the origins, evolution and policy behind our patent law, and will cover topics such as the patentability doctrine, the novelty and “inventive step” requirements, the interpretation of patent claims, infringement theories and remedies. A primary focus of the course will be the changing Supreme Court patent law jurisprudence.
