Strategic Intellectual Property Commercialization

This course will address issues related to exploitation of intellectual property rights as a business asset for new enterprises, or as a source of income for existing enterprises. The course examines the entire process of transferring technology including analysis of patent portfolios, development of a commercialization strategy, and ultimately negotiation and drafting of technology transfer agreements. Issues to be covered include cross-licensing; evaluating the intellectual property portfolios of other parties; and issues specific to various industries such as computer software, biotechnology, and e-commerce. Prerequisite: P502 Trademark/Trade Secret Law, P507 Copyright Law, and P508 Patent Law, or P567 Intellectual Property Survey, permission of the instructor.
