LAW B 574 Consumer Law Seminar

Credits: 2-6, Max 6


This seminar examines topical issues and significant cases particular to consumer transactions. Areas of focus include: common law consumer issues; FTC, CFPB and state statutory approaches to consumer protection; constitutional limits on advertising regulation; use of consumer protection statutes in civil rights cases, data breach regulation; Internet-based fraud, the Fair Credit Reporting Act; privacy and identity theft; spam and robocalling. We will examine the evolution of consumer law as well as the economic and social policies behind it, and also focus on the practical application of the law. Prerequisites: LAW A 501 Contracts, LAW A 502 Civil Procedure I, LAW A 507 Constitutional Law I, and LAW A 504 Torts.
