LAW B 513 Advanced Evidence

Credits: 2, Max 4

This course covers advanced topics in evidence law and policy. Pre-/co-requisite: LAW B503 (Evidence).

Stephen Hobbs
This is a “hands on” course designed to develop facility with handling, admitting, and objecting to the introduction of evidence at trial and forging an intuitive understanding of the most common and important rules of evidence. In each session, students will be assigned the role of plaintiff’s counsel, defense counsel, judge, witness, or juror. Scenarios will be presented (and replayed with multiple variations) that challenge one party to admit, and the other party to object to, evidence and testimony. In addition to gaining a working knowledge of courtroom and evidence procedure, the emphasis will be on understanding the principles that underlie the rules of evidence with the goal of becoming comfortable working “off-script” and responding to unusual and unexpected evidentiary developments at trial. This class will be graded Credit/No Credit.
