Drafting Business Documents
Credits:
1-3, Max 3
An introduction to the principles of legal drafting that compares and contrasts the law practice skills of drafting business documents with the law practice skills used for other forms of legal writing. Students will be given opportunities to practice drafting business documents within the framework of different business law doctrines that may include contract law, corporation law, commercial law, real property law, intellectual property law and employment law. Students may asked to revise and resubmit assignments in light of instructor or peer feedback; engage in legal research to support choices made in a drafting exercise; provide peer assessments; engage in self-assessment; participate in team-based activities; or participate in other forms of experiential learning. The emphasis will be on opportunities for hands-on learning in contexts that simulate different aspects of law practice, although the specific drafting exercises to be completed, legal doctrines to be considered, and teaching methods used may vary based on instructor choice.
