LAW P 547 Legal Protection of Computer Software

This course will cover the laws and regulations that protect computer software and online services. The course will address copyright, patent, trademark, trade dress, trade secret, privacy, contract, and data protection. It will also address how the law places boundaries around legal protection through anti-trust law and the doctrines of fair use and preemption. Topics include protection for source code, user interfaces, and multi-media software; the role of standards organizations; regulation of artificial intelligence; cybersecurity; and the role of license agreements in software development and distribution. Although not required, this course is intended for students who have basic knowledge of intellectual property law.
