LAW E 531 Indigenous Economic Development and the Law

Credits: 2-6, Max 6

A principal goal of British colonial policies was the acquisition of the lands and resources of the Indigenous communities in the colonies. The decapitalization of the Indigenous communities, poverty, and the dependence of those communities on national public assistance programs are among the lasting consequences of the colonial policies. This course examines the laws and policies governing economic development in Indigenous communities in the former British colonies today and the impacts of those laws and policies.
