Entrepreneurial Law Clinic
Credits:
1-9, Max 9
The Entrepreneurial Law Clinic (ELC) is an innovative clinic serving entrepreneurs and nonprofits throughout the West Coast, with a focus on the Pacific Northwest. The ELC partners law students with pro bono attorneys to provide free critical early-stage legal counseling to entrepreneurs, small business owners, nonprofits and University of Washington affiliated faculty, researchers, and students on business matters unrelated to current or expected litigation. The ELC also partners with various University of Washington early-stage entrepreneurial programs, including the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship, CoMotion, and Creative Destruction Lab, to provide early-stage startups with legal services and help ignite growth.
Students are studying in one of three specialty areas: Business Law; Intellectual Property (IP); or Tax. Training and activities in the Clinic will focus on counseling, transactional and regulatory compliance legal services. Direct supervision of students will be done by the Clinic's network of practicing pro bono attorneys. In order to ensure close supervision and a base of applicable legal knowledge, enrollment in the Clinic will be limited to 10-12 students.
