LAW B 526 Mediation Clinic

Credits: 1-10, Max 10

The Mediation Clinic includes a substantive seminar component that focuses on mediation law, policy, and ethics, and a practical component that includes intensive mediation skills training. The substantive learning and skills training in the fall prepares students to mediate actual cases of various types under faculty supervision in the winter quarter. In the Winter quarter students will convene and mediate real cases on a regular basis in Small Claims Court, for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and community-referred cases. Throughout the course, students will develop their understanding of the mediation process, train to be competent mediators, enhance their communication and negotiation skills, explore how cultural factors can impact mediation, and effectively manage persons in conflict. Offered on a credit/no credit basis. Enrollment is limited to eight students. LAW B 522 Mediation Skills Training, whihc occurs at the beginning of the Autumn quarter, is a co-requisite for Mediation Clinic students.
