Public Land Law

The course will cover the history of federal public land law, including grants of public land to private interests and the creation of the management regimes for the lands that are still publicly owned. The course will cover aspects of the legal rules that govern public timber, grazing, wilderness, and wildlife resources. The course will also cover such matters as the public trust doctrine and provide a context for understanding current disputes about use of public lands and resources.
