LAW H 540 Health And Human Rights

Will cover basic concepts in the fields of human rights law and public health, and use those concepts to examine the interdependence and tensions between the two fields. Subject areas include and introduction to the fields of public health and human rights law, an examination of the impact of health policies and programs on human rights, the health impacts resulting from human rights violations, the right to health and medicine and human rights. While the course will give students a foundation in the theories underlying human rights laws and public health, its focus is intended to be ultimately practical. By the end of the quarter, students will be able to identify and create strategies to increase collaboration between human rights laws and public health professionals in the field.
