LAW E 526 Law Reform In Transition Economies Seminar

Credits: 2-4, Max 4

Within Asia, Eurasia and Eastern Europe technical legal assistance is now a key tool for effecting economic transformation. ‘Foreign aid’ projects once focused on institutional reforms such as constitutions, courts and property, but the emphasis has shifted to multiple players seeking to strengthen commercial law and marketization. Using interdisciplinary perspectives and case studies, this seminar probes the assumptions, methods and outcomes of commercial law reform in transition economies. It also highlights and critiques the role of international lawyers in this important, emerging area of practice.
