LAW P 589 IP Innovations in Science and Technology

Credits: 2, Max 6

The course will cover controversial intellectual property law and policy questions arising from evolving science, technology and e-commerce, and address cutting edge issues from a multidisciplinary perspective. Guest lecturers include both legal and technology/science scholars and practitioners. The workshop will examine the current legal regimes and research environment and explore innovative methods for maximizing the exploitation of advanced science and technology.

SPR 2024 AI Law
This course will focus on (1) AI and Patent, Copyright, Trade Secret, and Trademark laws concerning creation, ownership, infringement, and enforcement; (2) AI/IP current litigation; (3) latest AI and AI-related laws enacted by different states, including California Consumer Privacy Act Amendments, California Algorithmic Accountability Act, Illinois Artificial Intelligence Video Interview Act, Washington AI Ethics, New York AI Transparency Act, Texas AI in Government Act, Massachusetts AI & Data Privacy Act, Colorado AI in Consumer Protection Act, and Virginia Data Protection Act; (4) EU’s AI Act; (5) China’s AI legislation. Each student will select a hot topic for presentation and capstone paper.
