Sign into Symplicity and go to the Events tab to RSVP for the following events:

  • Social Justice Tuesday Events
  • Gates Public Service Law Events

The Student Bar Association (SBA) is the student group for all University of Washington law students. SBA serves two major functions.

First, we are an advocate for student concerns at the law school, whether those concerns deal with policy problems of the School or what classes to take, we are there to help.

Second, we act to promote more social interaction at the law school. Over the year, we stage events and activities where you can meet your fellow law students in a nonacademic setting. Your yearly payment of dues helps make these events successful. We look forward to your participation.

Student Committee Members Needed

Please consider joining a faculty committee this year. There are five committees, and each has at least three spots on it for students (one from each class), and each representative has a voice and a vote on how the law school evolves. The committees are: Admissions, Curriculum, Academic Standards, Initial Appointments (non-voting student members), and Lectureship & Visitorship. To learn more about each committee, please download the short handout. To apply, please fill out the application (available to download). For questions, please contact Rike Connelly at rike AT u.washington.edu.

Deadline for applications is this Sunday, September 28, 2008, at midnight. Committees start meeting soon, so we need our student members ready!

Peer Mentor Program 2008-2009

The SBA organizes a peer mentor program for the benefit of 1L students. Each section will have approximately thirteen 2L and 3L students who will be available in large panel meetings and as individual mentors. To access the peer mentor list, please visit the peer mentor page. You can find the notes from meetings and other resources here as well.

Student Survey Results Summary

The SBA conducted a week-long survey with 2L and 3L students in late March about the rankings, exam administrations, and grading procedure. We have analyzed the results and prepared a memo that summarizes our findings and recommendations. This memo has been passed onto the Academic Standards Committee, Dean Kelly and Dean Hicks, and a meeting will be held next week to discuss it.

Disagree with these results? Suggestions? Comments? Please let us know.
Email Rike Connelly, SBA Executive Vice President, at rike AT u.washington.edu.

SJT-Shirt Sale 2008: Buy an SJT-Shirt for $20

SJT-Shirts are printed on white shirts and will sport the jazzy SJT Superheroes logo. Two varieties of SJT-Shirts are available, unisex shirts or women's style shirts. All proceeds will contribute to the provision of lunches to SJT attendees and help us bring this exciting program to life!

Social Justice Tuesdays is an innovative programming series that will offer UWLS students a chance to come together and discuss a wide range of social justice issues. The SJT mission is to promote well-organized, well-attended events to educate, inspire and provide resources to public interest-minded students. SJT is an effort to both build up UWLS's public interest community and to increase cooperation between student organizations.

Please use the T-shirt order form (pdf) to buy your very own shirt, and thanks! Contact Megan Vogel, megvogel@, with questions.
