KCBA Rep

My role as UWLS's 2008-09 King County Bar Association (KCBA) Representative is essentially to serve as the official connection between UWLS and the KCBA, as well as to sit as a voting member on the Board of Directors of the KCBA Young Lawyers Division (YLD). The YLD provides professional development opportunities and information resources to lawyers who have been in the profession for five years or less or who are 36 years and under -- this means that every graduating UWLS student that will practice in King County can and should become a member! I also put together several "meet and greets" between members of the KCBA and UWLS students throughout the year. Stay tuned, and please feel free to contact me should you have any questions about the KCBA and YLD.

In addition to my duties with the KCBA and the YLD, I also work with the other members of the SBA in organizing events and serving on various committees. I would love to hear your comments, questions, concerns, or suggestions via email or in the SBA office during my posted hours. I'm extremely proud to serve as an ambassador for our student body and look forward to a wonderful 2008-09 law school season!

WSBA Rep

My role as the law school's representative to the W.S.B.A. involves my service on the Board of Trustees of the W.S.B.A. Young Lawyer Division (W.Y.L.D.).  The W.Y.L.D. provides programs and services of special interest to young lawyers, law students, the public and to those denied access to the justice system.  In particular, the W.Y.L.D.:

  • Publishes De Novo, a bi-monthly publication serving young lawyers and law students.  You can pick up a copy by the student bulletin board across the hall from Room 133.
  • Sponsors programs that benefit high school students, including the pre-Law Student Leadership Conference and the YMCA Mock Trial Competition.  Stay tuned for how you can help these efforts by serving as a volunteer juror next spring.
  • Sponsors seminars that address the questions facing young lawyers as we balance our professional and personal lives.
  • Sponsors social and networking events such as the Race Judicata 5K (October 15, 2006), CLE & Ski Weekends, Hockey Nights and other fun opportunities to meet young lawyers who were in your shoes not too long ago!

There are a multitude opportunities for law students to get involved in W.S.B.A. activities.  I encourage you to check out the W.S.B.A. website and consider becoming a student member of the bar.  A form to join the W.S.B.A. can be found at:  http://www.wsba.org/lawstudentformforsections.pdf
In addition to my duties serving as a liason between our law school and the state bar, I serve on four committees at UWLS:  I.R.O.C. Taskforce (Information, Resources, Outreach & Communication), S.B.A. Budget Committee, Academic Standards Committee and Merchandising Committee.  I also serve as the S.B.A.’s liason to the Financial Aid Office.  I will be off campus during the fall of 2006, but will be readily accessibly by email during that time.  During the rest of the year, I will hold regular office hours and would enjoy the chance to talk with fellow classmates about any ideas or concerns.  I am extremely proud of our law school and look forward to a super 2006-07 academic year!

ABA Rep

My duties as ABA representative include serving as the conduit between the national Law Students Division, the 12 th Circuit of the Law School Division and the University of Washington student body. I hold one of the two delegate votes of our school when the ABA votes on policy matters.

Additionally, I am the person to contact regarding any questions regarding membership, interest in attending American Bar Association events, determining which sub-section of the ABA meets a students interest and providing information on how to get opportunities to network with members of these sections from across the country.
