Overview of this year's social events
Coming EventsThe Student Bar Association (SBA) is the student group for all University of Washington law students. SBA serves two major functions.
First, we are an advocate for student concerns at the law school, whether those concerns deal with policy problems of the School or what classes to take, we are there to help.
Second, we act to promote more social interaction at the law school. Over the year, we stage events and activities where you can meet your fellow law students in a nonacademic setting. Your yearly payment of dues helps make these events successful. We look forward to your participation.
2009-2010 SBA Elections this Week!
SBA Elections are underway! Campaigning begins this week, so please be sure to review each candidate's position statement [below] and on display on the bulletin boards throughout the Law School.
There are a large number of Board positions that currently have only one person running, and several students have expressed their concerns about this situation to me. Even though the nomination period is closed, our SBA bylaws provide for write-in candidates to campaign as any other candidate, so long as they follow the guidelines established by Title 4 . If you are an eligible student who would like to run and are not a current candidate, then I suggest that you conduct a write-on campaign. Although you will not be listed on the official ballot, you will still be able to conduct a campaign as all other candidates, which include submitting campaign materials, sending emails, and even presenting a brief campaign speech on Wednesday, April 22.The remainder of the Elections timeline is as follows:
- Wednesday, April 22: Speeches at 12:30 in Room 133 (snacks provided); polls open (voting conducted via Catalyst survey)
- Tuesday, April 28: Polls close at 5pm
- Wednesday, April 29: Election results certified at the SBA Meeting at 12:30 in Room 119

The Event We've all been waiting for...GALA IS HERE!
It is our privilege to invite you to this year's Spring Gala at the Locks. It is especially important that we continue to support one another within our Law School community. One of our best community-building events of the year is our Annual Gala, which is this Saturday, April 25. This event features light hors d'oeuvres, spirits, dancing, friends, and fun-all within a beautiful Seattle location. This year the celebration will be at the Canal in Ballard (5300 34th Ave. NW). We will be honoring the Philip Trautman Professors of the Year, the Mary Starr Staff Person of the Year, the Charles Z. Smith Public Interest Students of the Year, and the Student Organization of the Year.
See you there!
