The SALDF, UW Chapter, is dedicated to providing a forum for education, advocacy, and scholarship aimed at protecting the lives and advancing the interests of animals through the legal system, and raising the profile of the field of animal law.
SALDF works on an array of animal protection issues. Some of the topics that our board members are interested in are vegetarianism/veganism, the use of animals in research, equine protection, animal cruelty prosecutions, animal shelter law, providing off-leash areas for city dogs, and free speech for animal activists.
Animal law is a multidisciplinary field and its practice involves aspects of environmental, criminal, family, constitutional, contract, tort, property, and international law. Animal protection also has theoretic and pragmatic ties to many human rights causes, such as labor and employment, racism, feminism, and poverty issues.
