Tuition and Financial Aid
As a State-supported institution, the University of Washington's tuition rates offer exceptional value.

(Most international students will be non-residents for the duration of their study
at UW.)
As a State-supported institution, the University of Washington's tuition rates offer
exceptional value. Accident and health insurance; books and supplies; room and board;
personal expenses and transportation are estimated at an additional USD $18,000
– $20,000.
Scholarship assistance for the Ph.D. program is limited; we are able to provide tuition waivers, financial assistance and paid research positions for a small number of candidates, either in their first year or at the dissertation writing stage. Accordingly, candidates should budget sufficient funds to cover at
least two years of study in the program. The average completion time for
the degree at present is 3-4 years.
International applicants for the Asian and Comparative Law Ph.D. program are automatically
considered for tuition waivers and paid research positions. Students in exceptional financial need may submit a statement indicating this with
their application. Applicants seeking financial assistance should also investigate other funding sources such as employers, government
agencies and foundations, as well as organizations listed
on the Financial
Aid Offices' International Student web page.
For U.S. students, educational loans are available through the
Financial Aid Office.
