1L APPELLATE ADVOCACY COMPETITION
May 12 - 16, 2008
The 1L Appellate Advocacy Competition is MCHB’s largest in house competition. It serves as the culmination of the 1L experience – testing students’ writing and appellate advocacy skills under intense scrutiny from local judges and practitioners. Competitors team up in pairs and face off against other 1L teams. On the first two nights, each 1L team will argue once as petitioner and once as respondent. Based on the wins and losses, and the overall scores, the top teams from the first two nights will advance to the single elimination rounds.
The 1L Appellate Advocacy Competition is also the primary way by which we select new members of the Moot Court Honor Board. Like most Moot Court Competitions, the 1L Competition will consist of a brief writing component and an oral argument portion. Both the brief and the individual oral scores will count in determining the winner of each round and serve as the basis for determining who will be invited onto MCHB. The quality of the briefs and success in oral rounds give us the best information on who should carry forward our organization’s tradition of excellence and competitive dominance.
