About the Competition:
UW Moot Court Honor Board is pleased to announce its annual Contract Negotiation Competition. The competition will be held at the law school in mid-February. The competition provides an interactive setting where students role-play as advocates for a client’s interests. In the qualifying round, you and a teammate will negotiate with another team and complete a letter to your clients detailing the outcome of the negotiations. After the qualifying round, the best teams will advance and tackle shorter scenarios in the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds.
No specialized knowledge of negotiation is required. MCHB will hold at least one training session hosted by professors to help you improve your skills in advance of the competition. Although competitors should learn effective negotiation techniques, additional research into the problems presented is neither encouraged nor necessary.
Benefits from Participation
The competition is fun! You will take a break from law school readings and negotiate with your colleagues using creative problems. You might hate contracts but learn that you love negotiating, or vice versa. Sign up and try it out! In addition, those who participate and/or advance in the competition will earn points for use when applying to become members of the Moot Court Honor Board for the purposes of Cumulative Selection invitations. Or you can care less about Moot Court Honor Board and simply have fun.
