University of Washington Law-Foster School J.D./M.B.A. Degree

In the fall of 2013 the Deans of the UW Law and Foster Schools announced a renewed commitment to supporting the J.D./M.B.A. degree. Beginning with the fall of 2014 entering class, the Law and Foster schools are planning a series of special events and courses targeted at enriching the J.D./M.B.A. experience.

Admissions

Students interested in the JD/MBA degree should contact the Admissions Office at either UW Law or Foster School for specific application instructions..

Time to Completion

Accelerated degree. A new accelerated JD/MBA degree is being offered. Students may complete their credits in the fall term of the fourth year if two summers are devoted to study; they would be eligible to take the bar examination the following February.

Four Year Degree. Students who prefer little or no summer study can complete the JD/MBA degree in four academic years. They would be eligible to take the July bar examination (after their fourth year).

Tuition

Tuition for the JD/MBA will depend on the number of credits the student is enrolled in under UW Law and Foster. For current tuition rates for the law school and for Foster please visit: opb.washington.edu/content/tuition-and-required-fees. Students interested in receiving federal financial aid should still comply with the University's deadline to complete the FAFSA.

Faculty Mentors

Both UW Law and Foster Schools have faculty advisors expressly devoted to mentoring JD/MBA candidates. At UW Law the program is being led by Faith Stevelman, a nationally recognized scholar and professor in the field of corporate governance and finance. Academic mentoring at Foster is led by Assistant Dean Dan Poston, himself a JD/MBA and former lawyer and business executive.

Career Planning. Assistant Dean of MBA Career Management, Naomi Sanchez, has experience in helping both MBAs and JDs in career building – having come to Foster from the School of Law. Now working alongside the UW Law's Michelle Gonzalez, the pair lead a team of exceptional advisors devoted to helping JD/MBAs pursue the broad career options available to them.
