The University Of Washington School Of Law is one of the nation’s highest ranked public law schools and one of the world’s most respected centers for legal studies.
We ground our commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity and multiculturalism in our public mission and in our pursuit of excellence.
UW Law infuses our responsibility and commitment to diversity broadly and deeply into every aspect of our operations.
As a result, our students, faculty, staff, and alumni are all inspired by their shared commitment to diversity.
This commitment is visible in the law school’s people, programs, principles, and pursuits.
UW Law pursues diversity and inclusion purposefully and rigorously; in this sense, our work is a continually progression.
As an institution that shapes the law locally and globally, the law school recognizes that law is a powerful tool for social change.
The entire UW Law community is therefore committed to using our privileged leadership position to advance equality and justice throughout Washington State, the
United States, and the world.
UW Law also recognizes that the field of legal education itself has suffered from inequity and exclusion. The law school has not been immune from these injustices.
Accordingly, while UW Law looks to advance justice outside of Gates Hall, we also seeks to understand and identify our own strengths
and “blind spots” as an institution---possible gaps between the law school’s aspirations and achievements. Recognizing that we cannot be one of the world’s best law
schools without diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism interwoven seamlessly into our very fabric, UW Law commits itself to the relentless pursuit of these values
Many of the law school’s efforts to achieve our aspirations can be found on this page. UW Law organizes and hosts a number of events to celebrate and advance diversity.
UW Law students have organized numerous groups to champion diversity within the law school,
throughout the legal community, and within the broader society. The Dean’s Advisory Committee on Diversity
advises the Dean on ways to promote diversity and create a welcoming school climate that is supportive of all students, faculty, and staff, particularly those from underrepresented groups.
