Dr. Madrid is a Senior Advisor to the Dean. She joined the UW School of Law in 1989 has overseen several offices and programs in the areas of diversity, student services and human resources. Public service is a passion of Dr Madrid's and she has served on numerous boards and commissions. Currently she is a member of the Executive Committee of the Section on Minority Groups of the Association of American Law Schools, the Board of Directors of the Seattle Art Museum, United Way of King County (past chair), the YWCA of Seattle and King/Snohomish Counties, the Judicial Screening Committee of the King County Bar Association, and the Washington State Minority and Justice Commission.

She has received numerous awards both at the local and national levels including in 2010 the President's Award of the Latina/o Bar Association, the Tara Blair Spirit of Service Award from the Northwest Indian Bar Association and the 2010 Woman of Distinction from the Girl Scouts of Western Washington. She has been a speaker and presenter on several issues and in May 2007 she gave the commencement speech at her alma mater, CSU-Pueblo.
