Kate Corcoran joined the UW law school in 2004 and is an assistant director and career coach for the Career Planning Office. After receiving an undergraduate degree in education, she spent five years teaching in Kuwait, Zambia, and Sweden. Following graduate school in journalism, she worked for ten years as a newspaper, magazine and television reporter and editor.

In 1991 Professor Corcoran graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she was a writer and managing editor of Iowa Law Review. After a clerkship with Iowa Supreme Court Justice Linda K. Neuman, she practiced with Childers & Fiegen, a Cedar Rapids firm that specialized in commercial litigation and bankruptcy. From 1994-96 she directed the Iowa Supreme Court Commission on Planning for the 21st Century, a $250,000 study of Iowa's judicial branch.

A freelance writer and editor for many years, Professor Corcoran most recently was an adjunct faculty member and administrator at the University of Iowa School of Journalism & Mass Communication, where she taught writing and editing classes, advised students, and oversaw for-credit internships, career services, and assessment.

Her research interests include media law, legal history, and the Middle East. She is licensed to practice in Iowa.
