Entrepreneurial Law Clinic
Promoting Economic Development by Facilitating Entrepreneurship
The Entrepreneurial Law Clinic (ELC) is an innovative clinic serving entrepreneurs throughout the Pacific Northwest. We team law and business students with pro bono attorneys and business advisors to provide critical early stage legal and business counseling.
By providing such counseling, the ELC has become one of the cornerstones of the innovation ecosystem in the Pacific Northwest.
During 2011-2012, the ELC served 30 ventures, including seven microenterprises,
nine technology ventures and 14 nonprofit or social entrepreneurship projects.
The ELC students, supervising attorneys and business mentors spent approximately
4,840 hours on ELC-related work, including 38 legal consults and nine community
presentations.
Over the summer, the ELC was selected by the United States Patent and Trademark
Office to participate in both the Trademark Law School Clinic Certification
Pilot Program (Trademark Law Pilot) and Patent Law School Clinic Certification
Pilot Program (Patent Law Pilot). Under the Trademark Law Pilot and Patent Law
Pilot, students will be able to draft and file trademark and patent
applications, respectively. They will also answer Office Actions and communicate
with trademark examining attorneys or patent examiners for the applications they
have filed.
