Each of our professors has distinct experience and expertise, allowing the law school to offer more than 100 courses and seminars in specialized areas of law. Our faculty not only teaches the law, but the intellectual tools and skills necessary to a successful legal career. Great emphasis is placed upon gaining experience in analyzing cases, statutes, and other legal materials, and in synthesizing from these materials general notions of the structure and operation of the legal system.
To earn a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of Washington School of Law, a student must meet the residence requirements and must complete at least 135 quarter hours of credits satisfactory to the Law School, including credits for all required courses.

Students at the UW School of Law may expedite their legal education through our Accelerated J.D. program (AJD). The AJD option is a great opportunity for motivated students seeking a rigorous legal education in 8 quarters instead of the typical 3 full years.
