How to Apply: Transfer & Non-Degree Admissions
General Information
Transfer applicants who have completed at least one year at a member school of the
Association of American Law Schools (AALS) may apply to the UW School of Law for admission
with advanced standing with credit for no more than one year of such work.
A student who has completed or expects to complete at least two years of work at a
member school of the AALS and who expects to graduate from that school by transferring credits
back to their home law school may apply
to this school for admission as a non-degree candidate.
Please review:
Transfer and non-degree students are accepted on a space-available basis
only. Selection of the applicants is based on evidence either
- that the candidate
can produce above-average work at this law school
-
or -
- the candidate will
contribute to the diversity of the student body.
In a typical year we receive about 60 transfer applications and admit
three to five; we receive about 15 non-degree applications and admit two
or three. If you have additional questions, please contact the
Admissions Office (see below).
Students expecting to graduate from the University of Washington Law School
have priority over non-degree candidates in the selection of courses. This policy
parallels the general University Policy on the registration of nonmatriculated
students.
Financial aid is based on the FAFSA application which is available at
schools the end of December. Priority deadline for financial aid
applications is February 28. If you have additional questions about
financial aid, please visit the Law School Financial Aid Office's
website or contact us directly at (206) 543-4552
