The Puget Sound Lawyer Chapter and the University of Washington Law School Chapter of ACS invite you to a discussion with Jennifer Harbury on:
"The Legal & Policy Implications of United States Participation in Torture"
Human rights lawyer Jennifer Harbury is director of the Stop Torture Permanently (STOP) Campaign. Her efforts in the wake of her husband's secret detention and death by torture led to an official disclosure that his killers were Guatemalan intelligence officers serving as paid CIA informants. Ms. Harbury brought suit against the US government, argued her case before the US Supreme Court, won a claim in the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and investigated links between U.S. intelligence networks and Latin American death squads. She is the author of multiple books, including “Truth, Torture, and the American Way: The History and Consequences of U.S. Involvement in Torture,” and has been involved in presenting Citizens' Trials of Don Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzales, and George Tenet for violations of international and US law.
