Becoming a Member

Admission to the Washington International Law Journal is competitive. The primary method for selection is the Melissa S. Landers 1L Write-On Competition. Write-on memoranda receive points for style, organization, substantive analysis, grammar, and proper Bluebook citation. Points are added for each applicant’s 1L grade point average.

Prospective members are also encouraged to write-on using the translation method. Translation members make a unique contribution to the Journal, and are required to produce a student comment and a translation of publishable quality during their 2L year. Previous translations have included statutes, bills, court opinions, and scholarly articles.
