Requirements for All Applicants

  • Fill out and submit the Graduate School online application which requires the following documents to be submitted online:
    1. A one-page, single spaced statement of purpose
    2. An updated resume or CV
    3. Unofficial transcripts
    4. One letter of recommendation (While you have the option of requesting that your recommender submit a hardcopy letter on your behalf, we strongly encourage all recommendations to be submitted online.)
    5.  An optional statement requesting consideration for a need-based scholarship. More information can be found in the Cost and Finances section.
  • Pay the online application fee

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

  • TOEFL score (required from most international applicants). Please see the UW Graduate School Memo 8: English Language Ability for Admission to the Graduate School.
  • Requisite visa status. International applicants include students who hold U.S. visas, such as F-1, J-1 Exchange Visitors, H1-B, any dependent visas or any non-immigrant classifications. (You are not an international applicant if you hold a U.S. “Green Card or Immigrant” status.)
  • Provide the additional application materials required by the Graduate School. When you have submitted your online application and paid the application fee, you will see a detailed list of requirements.

Admitted students are required to submit a nonrefundable $500 enrollment confirmation deposit upon accepting the offer of admission. This deposit will be applied toward course fees.
