Intellectual Property Concentration Track

Faculty Advisors

Program Requirements

Students must take:

  1. All of the following courses in Intellectual Property:
    1. E567 IP Survey (6 credits)
    2. At least one of the following courses in Intellectual Property:
      1. A594 International Intellectual Property (3 credits)
      2. E541 Electronic Commerce and Information Technology (3 credits)
      3. P545 Advanced Patent Law (3 credits)
      4. P522 Advanced Copyright Law (2 credits)
  2. At least three advanced intellectual property courses (not less than 7 credits):
    1. B516 International Contracting (4 credits)
    2. E542 IP Law and Innovation Policy Workshop (4 credits)
    3. E547 Legal Protection of Computer Software (3 credits)
    4. E548 Litigation Strategies in Protection of Technology (3 credits)
    5. E550 Patent Prosecution (4 credits)
    6. E551 Representing Technology Start-ups (4 credits)
    7. E552 Strategic Technology Licensing (3 credits)
    8. T547 International Taxation of Electronic Commerce (4 credits)
    9. Coursework offered outside of the Law School as approved by the faculty IP Law Track advisor.
    10. Extern in an organization dealing with intellectual property rights approved by the law school public service program and the faculty concentration advisor (such as the U.W. Office of Technology Transfer, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit). Only 3 credits earned in such an externship may count toward 7 hour total.
  3. Students must complete an advanced writing project on an intellectual property law subject. This requirement may be satisfied by participation in Law B589 Intellectual Property Seminar or an approved E500 paper.
