Class of 2008 Gift Fund

LRAP Endowment

The purpose of the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) Endowment is to provide assistance to students and/or former students of the University of Washington School of Law who pursue public service careers by providing loan repayment to those with demonstrated educational debt and financial need.

The American Bar Association (ABA) has long recognized that educational debt is a barrier for law graduates to pursue public service careers. The barrier has an impact on both the legal profession and society. Consequently, with the encouragement of the ABA, many law schools in the nation have enacted Loan Repayment Assistance Programs (LRAPs) to lessen the burden of educational debt for those who pursue public service careers.

The State of Washington has appropriated $500,000 to LRAP for fiscal year 2008 (July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008). Of this, $250,000 went directly to the LRAP Endowment. The rest is available as matching funds, with the Legislature matching all money received by the school for LRAP in FY 2008, up to $250,000.

To take advantage of the state match, you must make a gift now —pledges are not matched by the State.
