The Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal is currently seeking
submissions of articles and translations for its upcoming volumes!
The
Journal welcomes the submission of articles that focus on
domestic law or policy in a Pacific Rim nation or an issue of
international or comparative law that relates to one or more Pacific
Rim nation. Of particular interest to the
Journal are
articles that make use of foreign-language sources otherwise
unavailable to English-language readers. The
Journal also
welcomes the submission of English translations of Asian-language
legal materials and legal scholarship.
Advantages of Publication with the Pacific Rim Law & Policy
Journal
The Journal is an ideal place to publish academic
manuscripts and translations dealing with international legal issues
or incorporating East Asian sources. Journal editors are among
the best writers at the University of Washington School of Law and
have extensive experience working with foreign-language sources and
complex international law issues. The Journal also has access
to the extensive collection of East Asian legal materials at the
University of Washington law library and East Asian studies
library. These editing capabilities and research resources enable
the Journal to provide comprehensive source gathering and
citation checking services for authors.
Submissions Guidelines
Articles should be written in typical law journal style: analytic,
well-supported with citations to authority, and of a length that
allows for sufficient treatment of the article's specific focus and
some of the broader implications of the topic. Articles published in
the Journal are generally twenty to forty pages in length.
The length of a translation can vary depending on the material
involved. Citations should conform to A Uniform System of
Citation (18th ed.), as well as to the Journal
Style Guide. Although authors accepted for publication
in the Journal typically have a law degree and professional
experience, the Journal will consider and has accepted
submissions from non-lawyers, LL.M., and students pursuing graduate
studies related to a Pacific Rim nation. The Journal has
published translations by both students and practitioners and focuses
primarily on foreign language proficiency in evaluating translations.
The Journal publishes six
peer-reviewed articles each year. There are two rounds of review for
submissions. The first is an initial editorial determination
about appropriateness of the topic for the journal. This is usually
completed quickly, within a few days. Articles that make it past the
first round of review are further reviewed and recommended for
publication by appropriate region and field experts during an
anonymous peer review process. The peer review panel consists of
academics and practitioners with extensive research, publishing and
practical experience on legal and policy issues in the Pacific Basin.
All articles and translations are edited carefully, cite checked,
and formatted by the editors of the Journal prior to
publication. Authors accepting offers of publication in the
Journal are expected to provide copies of sources unavailable at
the University of Washington and to respond to editing requests
promptly.
Submissions to the Journal may be sent by regular mail or
electronic mail. Email attachments should be sent to the address
below. Regular mail submissions should be sent to the address below
and should contain two paper copies of the manuscript and contact
information. A C.V. and article abstract are recommended but not
required. The length of time from acceptance of a
submission to final publication ranges from three to six months,
depending on the time of year and the availability of space in
upcoming issues. Articles and translations are available
in full-text format on WESTLAW© and LEXIS©.
