Welcome Class of 2011

The doors opened at the law school on September 8, ushering in a new class of law students.

The Class of 2011 is comprised of 187 students representing more than 90 undergraduate schools. More than half of the class are women (57%) and 60% are Washington state residents. Fourteen percent have graduate degrees and a quarter of the Class of 2011 are students of color.

The 1Ls arrived two weeks prior to the official start of school to attend Foundations of Legal Studies, an "intense course, designed to bring all incoming students onto a more level playing field," said Professor Tom Andrews, chair of the law school's Curriculum Committee.

"The course provides incoming students the opportunity to meet many of the full-time law faculty, particularly those they will not have their first year," he added

This is the second year the UW School of Law has required incoming students to attend FLS.
