Pro Bono at UW Law
MP4 Video |  Audio (mp3) |  YouTube |
At UW Law, we believe that members of the legal community have an obligation to help reduce barriers to access to justice. Providing high quality pro bono legal services to low-income clients and other under-represented groups is paramount. To this end, the UW Law’s Pro Bono Honors Program encourages our law school community (students, faculty and staff) to provide pro bono legal assistance. We particularly encourage J.D. law students to pledge to provide at least 70 hours of law-related pro bono assistance by graduation. By providing training, support, resources, opportunities and leadership development to our students, the program ensures that future lawyers are prepared and ready to fulfill the promise of equal justice.

Why Pro Bono?
MP4 Video |  Audio (mp3) |  YouTube |
We provide pro bono legal assistance because the need is great and it reduces barriers to accessing justice for low income communities- plus, it’s hugely rewarding. When you do pro bono you can also count on in-depth substantive and skills-based trainings and student leadership training and support at UW Law. In addition, there are countless opportunities to do direct client interviewing and counseling, engage in oral advocacy, research and writing, learn about courtroom procedure and etiquette, develop mentoring relationships and network with devoted attorneys in public interest and private firms.
