Seattle, WA – The Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal today announced a new title: the Washington International Law Journal (WILJ). Founded in 1990, the Journal is considered the foremost source of legal scholarship on the Pacific Rim, receiving more citing references than any other legal journal focusing on this region.

With this change, the Washington International Law Journal seeks to build upon its legacy of quality scholarship by broadening its scope to address pressing global legal and policy issues on foreign, comparative, and international law. By capitalizing on the strong international law programs at the University of Washington School of Law, the Washington International Law Journal will publish the highest-quality articles on global legal issues.

“The newly named Washington International Law Journal reflects the mission and ambition of UW Law to be a truly global law school,” said UW School of Law Dean Kellye Testy. “The evolution of the journal parallels the evolution of our school, as we reach out beyond our historic strength in Asian law and seek to influence and inform law and policy around the world.”

The Washington International Law Journal retains its particular interest in the Pacific Rim region and will continue to work closely with the UW School of Law’s Asian Law Center to provide unparalleled scholarship on the region. To further cross-cultural dialogue on foreign law, the Washington International Law Journal will continue to publish English-language translations of Chinese, Japanese and Korean legal materials. In tribute to the Journal’s leadership in scholarship on Asian law and its continued evolution, the final issue under the name Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal is the first significant special issue on Myanmar produced by any U.S. law review or journal.
