The UW Law team competes in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition

SEATTLE -- The UW Law team competed in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot this April in Vienna, Austria, competing against teams from Qatar, Russia, Turkey, and China. After winning the Michael T. Thorsnes Vis Pre-Moot this February, the team received an Honorable Mention brief award for the quality of their Memorandum for Claimant in the Vienna competition.

The 2012 UW Law Vis Team is Brie Coyle (2L), Andy Murphy (2L), David Rubenstein (3L) and Erin Pettigrew (3L), along with research assistants Sarah Sprinkle (3L) and Grant Rafter (2L). The team is coached by Alex Wu, a former Vis team member and UW Law alumnus currently working at Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson in Seattle, David Wagoner, an adjunct professor at UW and American University with a Seattle-based law practice specializing in arbitration, mediation, and international and domestic disputes, Dara Levinson, UW Law and Vis alumna, currently with Jones Day in San Francisco, Peter Day of Mercer Island Arbitration, and many Vis alumni currently working in the Seattle area. The team's faculty coach is Professor Theodore Myhre. The team is supported by the Brotman Fund at UW Law.

The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is a competition opened to law schools worldwide, focused on resolving commercial disputes using law, treaties, and conventions developed by the United Nations, among other international institutions. The rounds are judged by experienced arbitrators from around the world.
