SEATTLE -- Erin M. Pettigrew, ’12, has accepted a fellowship with the Initiative for Public Interest Law at Yale. The Initiative funds innovative, pioneering projects that serve underrepresented communities, providing financial support for one year. Pettigrew will work with host organization Northwest Workers’ Justice Project in Portland, Oregon, focusing on wage judgment collection for low-wage, immigrant, and contingent workers. To address the problem of uncollected wages, she will engage in policy advocacy, direct representation, and community education. Pettigrew has worked with low-wage workers at Columbia Legal Services, Unemployment Law Project, Oregon Law Center, and as a volunteer with Casa Latina’s Workers’ Defense Committee. Pettigrew will bring her prior advocacy experience to bear during the Yale Fellowship, seeking novel ways to bridge the gap between wage and hour laws and money in hand for vulnerable workers in the Pacific Northwest.
