The University of Washington School of Law will honor Richard Salwen '71, founding General
Counsel for Dell Computer Corp, with the
2006 Sharon Nelson
Leadership Award October 4, 2006 4-6 p.m. in William H. Gates Hall, Room
138. This award is given annually to a law school graduate who has made significant contributions in the fields of law and
technology by the Shidler Center for Law, Commerce + Technology.
Salwen, now retired, was the founding General Counsel for the
Dell Computer Corporation. He began his career as an associate attorney at the
firm then named Shidler, McBroom, Gates and Baldwin (now Preston, Gates, and
Ellis). He also served as Associate General Counsel for the Federal Aviation
Administration in Seattle and as General Counsel at the Perot Group, a real
estate investment and development company owned by Ross Perot in Dallas, Texas.
Salwen will present a public lecture, "How Technology Affected One Lawyer's
Career - A Reminiscence" at the event and The Shidler Center will honor law school students and faculty involved with law and
technology programs. The lecture is free and open to the public.
