The South Asian Bar Association will hold its first annual banquet, April
27, 2006, from 6:30 - 9 p.m., in the Hilton Pacific Ballroom, Seattle.
The keynote address, "Should South Asians Care About Civil Liberties," will
be presented by UW School of Law Professor Anita Ramasastry.
"The South Asian Bar Association of Washington is honored to have Professor
Anita Ramasastry inaugurate our first annual banquet with her keynote address on
civil liberties," said Sandip Soli ('99), Secretary, Immediate Past President &
Co-Founder, South Asian Bar Association of Washington. "As descendants of
immigrants, all Americans should take pause and reflect upon the ways in which
our constitutional principles have been interpreted since September 11, and the
treatment accorded to citizens and non-citizens in the name of national
security. Not only is Professor Ramasastry attune to speak on these issues, but
she encouraged my law school classmates and I to start this organization several
years ago at the UW Law School so that we now have a legal forum that focuses on
our community."
