John G. McNamara, assistant dean for development and external relations at the University of Washington School of Law, died Dec. 29, 2004 after a courageous six-month battle with cancer. He was 63.
A dedicated development professional, John had extensive experience in major gift fundraising, integrated marketing and capital campaign design. He brought to his post a high level of integrity, a willingness to assist others, and a warm and generous spirit that made him a truly special colleague. John came to the law school in May 2004, after serving as vice president for university relations at the University of San Diego. During his short tenure, John worked tirelessly to turn the law school’s dream for the future into reality. “He was a wonderful addition to our team and will be missed by all who had the opportunity to meet him,” said law school Dean W.H. (Joe) Knight. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, family members and friends as they mourn the loss of this special man.”
John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen, four children – Theresa McNamara Cosgrove, Daniel McNamara, Patrick McNamara, Christine McNamara Nulty – and five grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held Friday, Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. at The Immaculata at The University of San Diego, California. Memorial donations may be made to the John G.
