The report finds that Native American, Black and Hispanic children are over-represented in the child welfare system compared with White children, and that the disproportionality exists statewide. A

The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday slashed the amount of punitive damages that Exxon must pay for the epic Exxon Valdez oil spill. In a 5-3 decision, the court found that punitive damages could not be larger than the compensatory damages for actual losses from the spill, which totaled $507.5 million – less than a tenth of the original $2.5 billion in damages claimed by the plaintiffs.
