Judson F. Falknor Appellate Advocacy Competition
April 22-24, 2008
Additional Information
The annual Falknor Appellate Advocacy Moot Court competition is named in honor of former University of Washington School of Law Professor and Dean Judson F. Falknor. Born in Olympia, Washington in 1896, Judson Falknor received his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1919. In addition to spending 17 years in the active practice of law, Falknor served three terms in the Washington State Legislature, as Secretary of the Washington State Judicial Council and as Dean and Professor of the Law School from 1936 to 1951.
The Falknor Appellate Advocacy Competition is an in-house competition open to all second and third year law students. The competition is a great chance for students to practice their brief writing and oral advocacy skills. Exceptional performers in the Falknor competition will be invited on to the Moot Court Honor Board and may represent the UWLS at regional and national competitions.
The competition consists of both a brief writing component and an oral argument component. Students are eligible to receive up to two (2) Law 600 academic credits for satisfactory completion of both. Please see the Competition Rules for a complete discussion of these requirements.
