The LBE Distinguished Speaker Series hosts nationally recognized business law experts at the UW School of Law. Speakers present cutting edge research on topics of national importance and meet in small groups with students for informal conversation.

An expert on domestic and international securities regulation, Professor Karmel is a former SEC Commissioner, Director of the NYSE and was in private practice for 30 years before becoming one of the most celebrated securities law academics in the United States. A Fulbright Scholar studying the harmonization of the securities laws in the European Union, Professor Karmel’s current research investigates the future of ‘Big Law’ in a world where professional services are becoming institutionally integrated and publicly funded.
