William H. Gates Hall
Home of the UW School of Law and the Marian Gould Gallagher Law Library
Dedicated on September 12, 2003, the 196,000 square foot, six-story building is
named after William H. Gates, Sr., a 1950 graduate of the UW School of Law and father
of the Microsoft co-founder. Gates Hall gives students access to technology, such
as wireless Internet connections and 'smart podiums' with built-in screens and projector
equipment. Multi-functional classrooms create a stimulating learning environment
and the Marian Gould Gallagher Law Library, which houses the largest public legal
collection in the Pacific Northwest, is accessible to students and practitioners
alike.
Situated in a prime location on campus, just off of 'The Ave'—the heart of
the University District, and just north of downtown Seattle, Gates Hall is convenient
to all the amenities of student life as well as close to the Seattle legal community.
"Law is human service of the highest order. Our role as lawyers is to make
it possible for people to survive—and thrive—in an extraordinarily complex
world."
