Environmental Law Externships/Summer Jobs

The Pacific Northwest, and Seattle in particular, is home to many non-governmental organizations and government agencies that offer second- and third-year law students the opportunity to participate in externships for credit (which may also satisfy the School of Law’s public service requirement). For example, students have recently taken externships with groups such as American Rivers, Center for Environmental Law and Policy, Center for International Environmental Law, Earthjustice, National Wildlife Federation, Washington Environmental Council, Friends of the San Juans, and with Washington State Attorney General’s Office, the U.S. Department of Justice, Environment and Natural Resources Division, the U.S. EPA Region X. In addition, the Public Interest Law Association each year makes grants available to students working at public interest jobs, including environmental public interest jobs. A PILA grant is also available to fund one student's work in the Environmental Law Clinic over the summer.
