Laurie Carlsson enjoyed a fruitful career in music before social justice whisked her away. After touring with the multi-cultural performing group Up With People and studying vocal performance and songwriting at Berklee College of music, she settled in Seattle where she took part in many collaborative projects, including the Richard Hugo House Literary Series, the Sintonia Music Collective, the Seattle Singer-Songwriter Collective, and the Angel Band Project   a musical endeavor that gives voice to survivors of sexual violence. Somewhere along the way her path collided with the women's rights advocacy group Legal Voice, where she found herself on the road to a new career in advocacy.

After filling a variety of support and development roles at Legal Voice, Laurie helped to produce the annual Northwest Folklife Festival. Last summer she joined the Pride Foundation in their work toward marriage equality in Washington State, working as Family Outreach Specialist for the Approve 74 campaign. Laurie volunteers with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Legal Voice, and the Safe Schools Coalition, and currently sits on the board of the QLaw Foundation.

She is thrilled to have joined the diverse and talented team at UW Law.
